I am an electronic artist based in Oslo. I do drumandbass, jungle, IDM, breakcore, gabber, soundscapes, noise, drill'n'bass, trip-hop, lounge, whatever you want, (except house and trance, which make me puke, and then I smell bad. Nobody likes smelling bad...) performed live with hardware. I'll be in town between the 13th of December and the 2nd of January. I'm trying to find venues that will have me for a night. Hey everyone! I know you all must be gettin stoked for shambles! Im looking for a group of people to share the cost of a rented car or gas money with, for a ride to the kootenays between the 5th and the 7th. If anyone has enough room in their car for one small person and a bunch of art, and wouldnt mind bumming around in nelson for a couple days proir, then please let me know! Ill surely chip in a decent amount of money a few doobs for the ride. Even if anyone is going to the site early from calgary, I would be soooo greatful for a ride.

The City of Calgary Public Art Program, Arts & Culture division, is seeking Expressions of Interest (i.e. Request for Qualifications) from experienced artists with a demonstrated ability to design and produce integrated public art within environmental and/or ecological projects relating to water. Relevant experience working on interdisciplinary design teams and riparian restoration projects, as well as related construction and project management skills will be considered an asset. The goal of this public art project is to use public art to support the vision, mission and objectives of the Harvie Passage reconstruction project, celebrate the Bow River's natural abundance within the heart of the city, and provide a greater understanding of watershed issues, the significant history of the area, its visual beauty and recreational opportunities.

And the girl represented the imaginations of almost any other child out there. Who doesn't want to carry out creepy, horrible tasks to become a princess or a prince?

To tell you the truth, I haven't really dwelled long enough with these specific communities to come have coffee/tea with them at the specific nights. Are you a closet graffiti artist with nowhere to paint?
Are you someone who wants to add to their portfolio?
Do you have a few hours to spare and want to take part in something cool and permanent?

We will provide all the supplies you need and the theme, you can do what you like with it. The style will be your choice.
Take one area or both. Do it by yourself or get a crew together and make it happen.
This is in Calgary.

The catch: This project must be done on Aug 11, 12 and 13th.

The state of things

Well I should start with a quickie history of my connection with the "Calgary Dark Scene".

Once upon the time many many years ago I was a classic "Industrialite". Army pants and combat boots, worked at the Attic (anybody remember it?), hoarded CDs, went to the Warehouse once a week, etc.

Then I discovered the Techno scene and rapidly converted. To explain why, I'll compare three subcultures (I'll apologise in advance for being really stereotypical here):

Industrialites:

Don't: Live in warehouses (not here at least); Have real parties.
Do: Hoard music, Go to the bar and complain about the music and everyone else in the bar.

Goths:

Don't: Drink blood; Live in sewers
Do: Go to the bar and complain about the music as well as how the other goths are dressed.

Ravers:

Do: Rave
Enough said.

That's originally why I converted, but the fact is I still love some of the music. I started going to Dandroid's Arena night on occasion and had a great time - now that it's done I feel guilty about not having gone more.

So what is happening in this city darkwise nowdays?

Quab at Art Central

At the very end of last year, I went to the opening of Art Central. And now it's god damned amazing place to walk around, eat and buy stuff. And there is still new things I haven't checked out since I last was that a month ago. That place is growing like crazy.

Any ways, there's a gallery in that place called Quab, and it'll suit to your tastes if you like hanging people, and kinky personifications slathered in detail.

There is a face you see in this gallery that will literally appear to be 3d. The simple dry brushing makes a girls? face loom out of a fog. I've heard that when the lights are off, her face still glows. This picture is done by Maya K.

There are some hints of the world that mixes pain and pleasure, morbid and reality.

I suggest you head down to Art Central. It's part of the +15 path, and kitty korner from the center street station. There's also a clothing store called Shisomo? it's a cute place full of asian cloths, jewlery and the wickedest slippers ever.
